Frequently Asked Questions:
"What if I can't be hypnotized" - Anyone who wants to be, and has the ability to follow directions, can be hypnotized. It's a natural, normal process. Ever daydreamed? Then you've been in a hypnotic state.
"I'm worried about being out of control. Can you make me do something embarrassing?" - A hypnotist or hypnotherapist cannot make you do anything you don't want to, even if it's good for you. Forget what you've seen in the movies and on T.V. You are actually more in control of your mind & body during hypnosis than at any other time. I want to help you feel better, not worse!
"What does hypnosis feel like?" - Hypnosis itself doesn't feel like anything. It's a state of mind, not a physical sensation or emotion. It is common, however, to feel amazingly refreshed, clear-headed and focused afterwards.
"What if I can't come out of hypnosis?" - It is impossible to get "stuck" in hypnosis. You are awake, aware, and in control the whole time.
"What's the difference between hypnotherapy and the stage show I just saw? I would never get up on stage and act like that!" - A hypnotherapist, or consulting hypnotist, works with you one on one to resolve issues and achieve personal goals. Stage hypnosis is a performance art. Its purpose is to entertain. Stage hypnotists are highly skilled at selecting those volunteers who have a strong desire and willingness to follow directions. As unbelievable as it might seem if you're shy, people quack like ducks or sing like Elvis because they WANT to and enjoy the attention.
"I don't need to lose weight or stop smoking. What else is hypnosis good for?" - Hypnosis has hundreds of applications! It can help with lack of focus and confidence, sports/academic performance, excessive fears, bed wetting, teeth grinding, grief, stress, relationships, spirituality and much more.
"What about kids? Does hypnosis work for them too?" - Kids are great at hypnosis! They are naturally flexible, creative thinkers. In fact, children often achieve tremendous results after only one session.
"My child is healthy, but he's having experiences that I don't understand. He sees/hears/feels things. I'm not sure, but I think he might be psychic. Can we talk to you about this kind of thing?" - All questions/concerns are treated with the same respect and compassion. I have personal and familial experience with some of these "unusual" issues, so I'm not here to judge. If I think I can help, I will tell you. If I don't think I can, I'll tell you that too and try to suggest someone who can.
"The mind/body connection is a fascinating topic. Does Mind Works do group presentations?" - Absolutely! Everyday, hypnotists use techniques such as guided imagery, visualization, positive self- talk, and progressive relaxation to teach their clients how to make positive changes in their lives. Your group or organization can learn how to access this amazing inner power as well.
